DAY 11 I'm in my prime!

Friday 19th July

Today we braved a visit to the Greenwich Observatory (Julie is still suffering from her encounter with Cambridge chicken but is determined to give it a go - very, very slowly)

An Alice in Wonderland moment as I encounter the ship in a bottle outside the Greenwich Maritime Museum

Halfway up the climb to Greenwich Observatory, I never thought English lawns could look like this. It is another scorchingly hot day. NOTE: sunbathers don't mind stretching back on dead grass in an effort to grab a tan

After a very hot climb I need a nice big drink - it seems that nobody in England drinks tea anymore

In the "caff" there was plenty of propaganda- it says something like "good on you Russian teapot, from the Earth you have opened to stars" Maybe a little poetic license there but you get the gist

I am touching something that is 4.5 billion years old. The oldest thing I will ever touch! Julie says she certainly feels that way today

And here I am. "Stop all the clocks!" I am on the prime meridian. Every time you hear GMT from now on it stands for Greenwich Me Time.

After standing in the hot sun for half an hour it was certainly time to retire to the cool of the hotel and another night from hell for Julie. Off to the doctor tomorrow if she doesn't improve.
