DAY 3 Desres in Deptford and shafted at the Shard

Thursday 11th July

After a great rest overnight and a sustaining breakfast I felt brave enough to chance my luck walking to Deptford to catch up with Sian for a coffee. The JPS (Julie Positioning System for the uninitiated) did a great job  and we arrived at her front door within 15 minutes. Luckily she was home or I would have spent the next hour or so investigating all of the pound shops in Deptford High Street. We went in (up 3 flights of stairs) for a cup of real coffee and a mosey around. The views are magnificent.
Resting on the sofa in Sian and Owen's place, checking out Owen's decks and vinyl collection

A very artistic shot of me looking at the Shard from Sian and Owen's place

Ahhh that's better, it's all about me!!!!

Afterwards we went down the road for a bite of lunch at a lovely eclectic cafe, very Fitzroy/Brunswick in style. Yummy white tea (finally someone had a cup of tea!)

In the early evening we were scheduled to visit the Shard with the Syrettes from Canberra but Greenpeace activists put paid to that plan. Some protesters, protesting mining in the Arctic, had decided to pick that very day to scale the Shard and consequently the building was closed to visitors.
So near, and yet so far
Here I am watching a Greenpeace activist almost at the top of the tower. She is a tiny speck on the right near the top. I'm sure the media coverage would have been just as apparent if it was me up the top there.

Plans to scale the tallest building in Western Europe foiled, there was nothing for it but to retire to a pub and drown my sorrows with the rest of the family
From left to right Julie, Alex, Michael, Iain, Monica, Harry, Lisa, Fiona, and ME in the centre as usual

A good night was has by all
